Aby-a-Day – May 25: Sweet Transvestite (Fashion Friday)

Apparently, cross-dressing runs in Jacoby’s family.

jakexdresserN0852

At the last cat show, Meg was saying that of his three littermates, Cousin Taz was a transvestite. I actually said he was more of an Abyssinian Ryan Seacrest, so extremely metrosexual as to be only possibly gay (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

jakexdresserN0857

And then we had Cousin Toki last week masquerading as a pretty pretty princess in one of Julie’s tiaras.

jakexdresserN0854

So, call it peer pressure. Call it genetic inevitability.

jakexdresserN0864

Call it Jake in a dress. One of Angel’s dresses, to be precise.

jakexdresserN0863

Evidently, Jake’s been learning supermodel poses from Sparkle.

jakexdresserN0860

If my husband finds out I put Jake in a dress, I’m in big trouble. Hell hath no fury like a man with one boycat with compromised masculinity.

tessieC00013

Shut up, Tessie.

Aby-a-Day – May 13: Try telling HIM I’m not his mom

I love the front camera on the iPhone. I hope that when the long-awaited iPhone 5 is released, they increase the megapixels and improve the resolution on that front camera, because that’s the only downside: the photos are kind of lousy. Like, 1999-digital-camera lousy.

jakecocotrainIMG_7533

But they’re so much fun to take!

jakecocotrainIMG_7534

Even if they photos themselves are kind of crappy.

jakecocotrainIMG_7535

jakecocotrainIMG_7536

I don’t know how Jake knows when I’m using my phone as a camera, but oh, he knows.

jakecocotrainIMG_7537

I swear Jacoby is smiling in this shot.

Aby-a-Day – April 9: Faces on a train (Hipstamatic Monday)

The nice thing about having an iPhone is, you have an endless source of entertainment at your fingertips.

incrediboothjakecocoIMG_6686

Like, say, when you’re bored on the train.

incrediboothjakecocoIMG_6690

With a cat.

incrediboothjakecocoIMG_6691

Who’s also bored.

incrediboothjakecocoIMG_6693

Not to mention a bit of a camera ham.

incrediboothjakecocoIMG_6694

Hipstamatic’s Incredibooth is custom-made for long, boring train rides.

incrediboothjakecocoIMG_6696

Even better, they’ve upgraded Incredibooth so that you can use the higher-pixel, higher-res rear camera as well as the front camera.

incrediboothjakecocoIMG_6702

Because who wants grainy, low-resolution goofy self-portraits?

Aby-a-Day – January 15: Naturally Remarkable

When we were taking photos for National Dress Up Your Pet Day, my husband thought it would be funny to throw in a prop:

jakeplantersN8659

Of course Jacoby totally played along and posed with Mr. Peanut. It makes me wonder, now, if I should find some little white cuffs to put around his wrists. I know he won’t wear gloves!

jakeplantersN8660

I think I’ve got a shot at next year’s Page-a-Day Cat Calendar (which I need to hurry up and enter), maybe around New Year’s Eve, though.

Aby-a-Day – October 25: Pose with Puss in Boots

I just downloaded a super fun app the other day for my iPhone. Pose with Puss in Boots, from DreamWorks may be just an advertising gimmick for the new Puss in Boots movie coming out this weekend, but it’s also really well done and an absolute hoot to play with.

pussinbootsIMG_5284

The app allows you to insert Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws and other characters from the new movie into photos taken with your iPhone or Android device. You can use photos you’ve already taken, or take new ones incorporating the character of your choice.

jakepussinbootsIMG_5285

There are several poses of Puss, including one flamenco dancing with Kitty, along with the other characters from the film (although, let’s be honest, the cats are the ones everyone’s going to use), and also Puss’ hat and his boots.

jakepussinbootsIMG_5289

I took this one of Jacoby with Puss’ hat. You can move your chosen element around on the screen and resize it if necessary before you click the shutter. If you have a posing camera ham like I do, it isn’t hard to get great shots.

jakepussinbootsIMG_5290

You can also take a photo with one element, and then go back and add other elements to make a fun composite shot.

jakepussinbootsIMG_5287

I haven’t played around a lot with it, yet, since I only downloaded it last night, but so far I’m highly impressed (and amused).

jakepussinbootsIMG_5292

Also included in the app are videos (including the awesome Old Spice spoof “The Cat Haz Swagger”), an Easter egg hunt, and a feature that repeats everything you say in “helium voice.” The only downside I’ve found is that there’s no way to mute the sound, so don’t try playing with this in a meeting or during a movie!

Best of all, it’s FREE! It actually works better and is more entertaining than a lot of apps I’ve paid for, so if you like Puss in Boots at all, I’d definitely recommend it.

Abys: Clowns of the cat world?

Quite possibly. I found this photo of Sierra on Flickr…look at this face! It’s the embodiment of the emoticon O.o

Sierra's stinkface

Sierra is a foster Aby in British Columbia with a very expressive face. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a photo quite like this one! Her person says this is her “stink face,” which describes it really well.

Sierra

She’s also capable of making normal faces, too.

Aby-a-Day – Day 300 of 365

(Continued from yesterday’s post…)

I made Jacoby a little sock out of a fabric hair band to keep him from worrying his bandages off despite the bitter “no chew” flavouring.

jakefootN9355

I chose a white one because I was least likely to wear it, and because it looked like a miniature plaster cast. I signed his “cast” with get well messages from the other cats.

jakefootN9372

He still tried to take it off, though.

jakefootN9371

He also got a little confused sometimes and thought his sock-enclosed foot was a toy…must have been the pain meds! Although in his defense, it did kind of look like a Hot Cat.

jakefoot-dramaticN9369

And of course, he wasn’t above playing up his injuries to his very dramatic advantage!

jakefoot_060

However, the white sock got a little dingy from normal use (especially trips to the litterbox) and it seemed the knot on the end, while it made a good bumper and afforded extra protection to the end of his foot, was annoying him in the “I keep seeing that thing out of the corner of my eye and it’s bugging the crap out of me!” kind of way. He was also pulling at the top of the sock with his teeth and tearing it, so I had to add another bandage at the top. This is how it looked by Monday night.

So, when we came home from getting the bandage re-wrapped at the vet, I set about creating a new and improved sock.

jakefoot_076

This time, I used a black hair band, and turned it inside out so the knot end was hidden. I also left the other end longer and folded it in so he’d be less likely to bite at the top of the sock.

jakefoot_068

Behold, Sock 2.0! Jake seems to approve of the modifications – just look at those happy paws.

(To be continued…)

Aby-a-Day – Day 292 of 365

I’m finally going through photos I took in July and August, and I’m finding some hilarious shots I’d totally forgotten about.

This series is posted exactly in order as they were snapped over July 4th weekend. Jake was helping me in the kitchen when the movement of the water in the swimming pool caught his attention.

Okay, so it’s not quite Standing Cat, but it’s still pretty funny.
