Check out today’s Daily Kitten!
How cute is Lionel with his little yellow blankie?
The post I made last week reminded me of the first weekend I had Jacoby. Even though he’d only just met me, and we didn’t choose each other, he crashed out next to me for a nap.
Considering his brother, Gun-Hee, seemed to never sleep at all, it was a wonderful and precious thing to me that Jake felt happy enough to nap with me like that.
And it’s even nicer when he does it today. Not only did Gun-Hee never sleep (we think it’s because he knew, somehow, he would have a short life and he wanted to make the most of the time he had), but, until he got sick at the end, he never slept on the bed with us. Jake, however, is always there when I wake up in the morning.
I love it. I’m not, by any stretch of the most imaginative imaginations, a morning person…but he helps.
My husband took today’s photos. I’d been watching television and fell asleep (which is why I’m sleeping with my glasses on).
Jacoby usually does sleep with me, but he almost always sleeps near my legs, usually behind my knees. Still, it’s pretty good for an Aby; Gun-Hee never slept at all, and Angel usually prefers to sleep on the cat tree than on the bed.
But for whatever reason, he decided to sleep right next to my head this time.
Granted, I didn’t really know he was sleeping there until I woke up, so I don’t know how long he was there, but it was a nice thing to wake up to.
“Okay, Dad, enough with the camera and the flash. You’re gonna wake her up.”
Good news! We put Angel’s round fleece cat bed (which has a charming Siamese cat print on it; I got it in 1995 for my Siamese, Harri) into one of the new Ramvik tables (with the glass shelf omitted) and just left it there for her to find.
And find it she did.
It’s hard to tell if she likes it more or less than underneath the old coffeetable, for two reasons: one, there was a Red Sox-Yankees game on ESPN, so Angel was on the TV table all night; and two, Kylie’s been in that bed since Dave put her in it because Angel was watching the game.
We have six dining room chairs in our living room waiting for the table to be brought out of storage. They are gathered in a corner, and over time have had blankets and cat beds arranged on them in a way that pleases the feline members of the family.
It gets a lot of use, especially on sunny afternoons.
I’m not sure what about it the cats love, but I have a feeling that they’re going to be sad when we bring in the table.
Some more than others. Angel really loves the chair fort.
When she relaxes, Angel really relaxes. She’s still quite skittish and nervous some of the time, but when she feels safe and secure (which is more and more often these days), it’s a heartwarming thing of beauty.

I only worry about one thing…what will she do when we finally get around to building the IKEA coffee table we got to replace that glass thing she loves to sleep under so much?
We are in the process of IKEA-izing our apartment. We have a set of Pax cabinets built in the bedroom; while we wait for another trip to Stoughton to get another set of drawers, Jacoby’s favourite sleeping spot is a basket on one of the of the still-open shelves.
Here he is in his basket, while Angel gauges her chances of joining him in there.
Gun-Hee was sleeping so cutely tonight, I needed to capture it for posterity…

I’m constantly amazed at how trusting and confident Gun-Hee is. He has no qualms about exposing his belly to the world when he’s asleep…

I’m especially fond of the one fang he’s got sticking out.
Despite an endless supply of better choices, Gun-Hee decided that my LL Bean bag was the best place in the house to sleep.

…including napping.
