Aby-a-Day – November 27: Such a helpful Christmas elf!

Today was spent putting up our beloved LED fibre-optic white Xmas tree and the other holiday decorations.

I had such a great helper, too.

jaketree-helpingN8013

From the moment I unzipped the tree bag, Jacoby was right there inspecting everything to make sure it was all in good working order.

jaketree-helpingN8015

Then he needed to check out the ambiance underneath the tree.

And then…he got into some serious fake pine needle chewing. I don’t understand the attaction, and none one else does it, but he loves biting the tree.

jakederpN8021

Check out the Grand Premier! If I ever need to blackmail Jake, I think I’m set.

jaketree-helpingN8027

“Okay, that was awesome…what else do you have?”

Aby-a-Day – Day 363 of 365

Jacoby also enjoyed his catnip duck sauce packet.

jakexmasdayN1163

He licked it until, as Steve Martin so delicately said once upon a time, it had cat spit all over it.

jakexmasdayN1146

I caught him licking the hot mustard packet, too. “What? If I lick them, they’re mine, right?”

tessiexmasdayN1159

I don’t think that trick works on Tessie, Jake.

tessiexmasdayN1158

Or did you just not want to lick the squirting hot sauce?

Aby-a-Day – Day 360 of 365

Angel also had her share of holiday cheer, of course.

Her favourite stocking stuffers were the Catnip Sauce Packets and her Hey Pais Blue Ridge Mouse.

But the toy she loved most was a new thing I found from Petstages: a Blinking Buddy. Petstages has a great line of nighttime toys for cats to play with quietly while their owners are sleeping. I think it’s a brilliant idea and I wonder why no one has thought of it before, since cats are nocturnal and all.

angelxmasdayN1134

Angel loves lights and things that move, so this was a no-brainer.

angelxmasdayN1132

It’s so gratifying when you find the perfect toy for your cat. It may seem silly to people who don’t have cats, but they really do love their play things.

angelxmasdayN1129

If I wanted to custom design a toy for Angel, I couldn’t have done a better job.

Aby-a-Day – Day 359 of 365

Happy Christmas, everyone! It was quite the cat toy and catnip orgy at our house this morning.

jakexmasdayN1156

One of Jacoby’s favourite toys was his catnip hash brown.

jaketessiexmasdayN1176

Although, he also liked his LL Bean faux shearling coat and, well, everyone loved the FroliCat Dart.

jakexmasdayN1260

Hard to say what he liked best…he also got more of his crispy catnip bacon and his chew mice. Probably the most popular gift overall was the fabulous boomerang bed from Like Kittysville. Everyone took a turn in it, it was that popular.

jakexmasdayN1353

It was either that, or the squirrel tail I got him at the fly fishing shop. Or the fact that we finally took all the boxes away and he could play under the tree again. He was going bonkers with all the catnip, toys and new things. Just watch:

Aby-a Day – Day 353 of 365

Jacoby is simply fascinated by all things Christmas. He loves the tree and he often sits beneath it or next to it, watching the lights move. He’s also very interested in the stockings, which hang in the window with care since we don’t have a chimney.

jakestockingsN1021

He goes up on the windowsill at least once a day to get a closer look at them.

jakestockingsN1026

He shows off his impeccable balance and goatlike surefootedness as he steps around the decorations. Sometimes, he reaches up to touch one of the stockings.

jakestockingsN1027

But only his own. He only ever grabs at his own stocking, never at any of the others. It’s not the easiest target, and it doesn’t smell that much different from the other cats’ stockings, but somehow, he only ever goes after his own stocking.

This is only his second Christmas; he hasn’t had time to have really learned the difference between his own stocking and any other stocking. So…

How does he know which one’s his? They’ve been up almost a month, and I’ve only seen him try to get his own.

Aby-a-Day – Day 349 of 365

15 December 2006 is when we brought Gun-Hee home. This was, of course, ten days before his first Christmas.

gunhee-tree794

And his first Christmas tree.

gunhee-tree809

He waited until Christmas night before trying to climb the tree.

gunhee-tree820

But once he figured it out, we couldn’t keep him on the floor!

gunhee-tree814

It was really high up, too! The predecessor to the tree we have now, I believe this tree was 7′ tall. I guess I’m lucky Jake’s never gotten it into his little Aby brain to climb the tree…

Aby-a-Day – Day 335 of 365

I had lunch in Faneuil Hall yesterday, and saw this in the Build-a-Bear shop’s window display.

xmasjakeN0483

So of course I had to buy one for Jacoby.

xmasjakeN0476

It never ceases to amaze me how good natured he is. He really doesn’t mind being dressed up…his only problem with this one was the arm holes. He doesn’t like sleeves or armholes.

xmasjakeN0481

However, even armholes can be forgiven with a little turkey.

Gun-Hee and the Xmas aftermath

I didn’t take very many pictures this morning…you know how it is, the place looks like a tornado hit a Christmas Tree Store, and the last thing you think of is grabbing a camera to capture the moment. But I did take a few…

Gun-Hee in his new fleece warm-up, playing with Tessie’s sparkleball garland
(we took the balls off the string later). He got a new collar, too.

The fleece warm-up has a reflective strip up the back.

Playing with a little wind-up bird I got him.

I got him the most amusing catnip toy…a Chill Pill!

Dave asked, “Do you think it will work?” when I took it out of Gun-Hee’s stocking.

I don’t know if it’ll work or not…but he does seem to like it!

Christmas is awesome

I got my Christmas package from my dad and stepmom today. They always send a lot of small things, individually wrapped and tagged. One little package was marked “For the Tree,” which I knew meant, “Open now.”

So I opened it. To find the most appropriate “For the Tree” gift I think I’ve ever received. Well. I mean, judge for yourself.

And they hadn’t even seen their Christmas card yet!
