Other People’s Abys – Orion the Clappy Cat

Abyssinians are, without a doubt, the silliest breed I’ve ever encountered. Here’s a video of a Blue Aby named Orion.

    1. Actually, Blues are my favourite! I remember the first time I saw a photo of a Blue, I was just stunned.
Reds and Ruddies are the most common, though. I don’t think I’ve seen very many at all in real life.
There was this one photo that was in like every cat book in the 70’s of this one litter of four Aby kittens, one of each of the four CFA recognised colours: Ruddy, Red, Blue and Fawn. I just loved that little blue kitten.

      1. Ah, thank you! 🙂 I was thinking that the blue was very pretty myself.
Of course, I’m a redhead, so I have to give up props to my reds as well.
I’m not sure I know the difference between red and ruddy…is ruddy more brown?

        1. Well, the best example is Angel and Jake…Angel is a red, and Jake’s a Ruddy. Ruddies are a mahogany; their undercoats are kind of apricot and their paw pads and each hair is ticked with black.
          Here’s a ruddy:

Reds are lighter all over, and their paw pads are pink and each hair is ticked with a sepia brown.
          Here’s a red:

Ruddies look more striking in photographs, but the reds have a surprising subtlety. I never appreciated reds until I met Angel and got to see one close up.
