Aby-a-Day – December 21: “Mellow” (Saturday Photo Hunt)

This week’s Photo Hunt subject is “Mellow.”

Now, these photos of Angel on the windowsill exploring our Christmas decorations may not seem to illustrate the concept of “mellow.”

That’s because, for most cats, things like walking on the windowsill is just “normal.”

Especially for an Abyssinian!

But for Angel, who – even after five years of living with us – is still nervous and skittish, especially in open areas, this is a display of great confidence and calmness.

So Angel had to be feeling pretty mellow to just nonchalantly wander over to the windowsill and sniff the lamp.

Although by the time she was ready to get down, you can see by her posture and the expression on her face that it’s starting to wear off. And indeed, just after I took this last photo, she jumped down, and went back to one of her “safe places.”

  1. Paws up, Angel! Some kitties are just slow to relax. Boodie has lived here for 12 years and only in the past year or so has my human been able to hold her so she hangs upside down (a big test of trust!). Her boyfriend can’t do it, but she does let him pet her in the mornings.

  2. I have one like that! She occasionally comes out to roll on the floor or to stretch in the sun or to give some headbutts (or FOOD 🙂 !) but spends the majority of her time in her “hidey spots”, watching the world go by. On the plus side, between 3-4 hidey spots means that I usually know exactly where she is, in the event I ever need to get her out quickly.
