Our kitties got a lot of great Xmas presents, but one of the best was a pair of Hexbug mice.
Apparently the folks at Hexbug got wise to the fact that cats love playing with Hexbugs and made a version specifically for felines.
Jacoby had a blast playing with them.
We got two, one grey and one white.
I thought the grey one would be the favourite, since it’s more natural, but against our floors the white one seemed to stand out more.
It was funny…sometimes Jake seemed a little intimidated by the mice!
It really makes me wonder what he’d do if he ever saw a real mouse.
One thing Jake decided was fun was picking up a mouse by its tail.
Remember, these mice, like the Hexbugs, move around by vibrating on little rubber feet.
The tail kind of sticks up when the mouse runs, which apparently is really appealing.
Jake kept catching the mouse by the tail and picking it up.
But eventually the vibration got to be too much for him to hold onto, and the mouse would escape.
He kept going for the tail, though.
You can see the vibration of the mouse makes it swing back and forth.
Eventually, Jake would have to drop it.
And then it would skitter off and he’d chase after it.
After a few catch-and-releases, Jake got pretty good at holding onto the mouse.
He was even able to carry the mouse by its tail with a little practice!
And a little adjustment to his grip along the way.
In the Warriors books, there are many descriptions of cats carrying mice by their tails, but I’ve never see it happen in real life…until now. I would have thought Jake would have tired to bite the mice’s necks…but he thought the tail was a better target. Who knew?
