While Alfred and Izaak will never have the relationship that Alfred and Logan had, they are still the two youngest male cats in the house. They may not be brothers from another mother…but they are brothers, nonetheless.
And one thing brothers do, regardless of species, is wrassle.
As of today, Freddy weighs 4.1 kg (9 lbs) and Zak weighs 2.3 kg (5 lbs). Almost double!
Our little Zak can hold his own against Freddy, though.
Freddy chews on Zak’s ear, and Zak just waits him out.
Freddy starts grooming Zak, trying to throw him off and lull him into complacency…
…It didn’t work.
In fact, Zak turned on Freddy.
“The first test is the element of surprise! You FAILED!”
Zak held Freddy off for a while with nothing more than his Singapura stink-eye.
The fighting action was so awesome, and it was so hard to capture in a still photo, I decided, hey, let’s make a video! Yeah…that was not one of my best ideas (Click image to view movie in a new window).
And then, five minutes later…we had this. Boys.
The last time we all went to the vet, we encountered a gorgeous German Shepherd in the lobby. He was so huge compared to Lorelai!
But Rory was her usual fearless self.
In fact, she barely seemed to notice him at all. “Dog? What dog?”
Alfred, on the other hand…
…did not like the looks of that enormous predator at all.
In fact, he put his body between the dog and Rory to protect her.
The dog had the good sense to look appropriately intimidated.
“Don’t worry, little sister. I won’t let this beast hurt you.” Not that Rory looks at all concerned.
The Shepherd was actually a well-trained tracking and guard dog, and he and his human volunteer with the canine unit at their local Hemvärnet battalion. Hemvärnet dogs are very disciplined, and he wouldn’t have hurt a kitten.
Freddy didn’t still didn’t trust him. The entire time we were there with that dog, he remained vigilant, protecting Rory from harm.
Today was Lorelai’s very first cat show in Forshaga, just north of Karlstad, in Värmlands Län.
When we got to the benching area and looked at the catalogue, we got two surprises…One, there was a little ruddy girl who was born the exact same day as Rory!
Her full name is SE*Cat Claw’s Master-Class (I don’t know what her nickname is), and apart from the fact that she looks more like Jacoby, the rest of her was just like Rory.
She really wanted me to open the cage door and play with her.
But the other surprise was even bigger: Rory has a half brother! SE*Cat Claw’s Lord of Light’s father is the same as Rory’s: Norwegian-born Tejas Glenn! Her brother is a handsome fellow, isn’t he? He reminds me a bit of Alfred.
So how did Rory do? Well, turns out our judge, Marie Westerlund, bred Abys, and she absolutely fell in love with our girl.
And Rory played on the table like a champ.
End result? She was nominated to the final panel! She didn’t get Best Kat. 4 Kitten in Show, though; a Russian Blue boy who is on track to be FIFe’s best kitten won the day. But, watching the judges, it looked close decision on the judges’ part, and it’s a very promising start. Let’s see how she does tomorrow.
Patrick and Gun-Hee have very little in common…except for the fact that they were both born in the Year of the Dog, 12 years apart. They almost never cuddle together, unless Patrick is on the heater bed and Gun-Hee wants it all for himself. So it was rather charming to find this scene when I woke up yesterday morning…
