We won a brown domed cat bed by Dogman at a cat show a few years ago. Angel immediately claimed it as her own, and for the most part, all the other cats respect her ownership.
Except, of course, Logan, and, later, Izaak, at least when he was younger.
Or so I thought.
A couple of weeks ago, I found Zak in Angel’s bed. With Angel still in it.
So it’s still happening, even though Zak’s an adult who weighs the same as Angel does.
But the part that really made me laugh?
Angel has apparently just given up and resigned herself to sharing her bed at the whims of a stubborn Singapura.
Alfred and Logan were truly “Brothers from another mother,” and when Logan died so young and so suddenly, poor Freddy was probably the most affected by our loss.
Lorelai’s arrival a month after Logan’s death helped Freddy cope. But then when Izaak joined our family a month and a half after Rory, it took Freddy a little while to accept little Zakky.
As Singapuras are wont to do, Zak kept cuddling up to Freddy in spite of Fred’s opinion. Fast forward almost a year, and Freddy and Zak are usually found cuddled up together…especially on my legs whilst I’m asleep.
Another of their favourite napping spots, especially on sunny afternoons, is on the couch in Kalle’s room.
Okay, so Freddy and Zak aren’t the bonded pair that Freddy and Logan were…partly because Zakky loves everyone in his way. He’s also closely bonded with Lorelai, of course, and he had an…interesting…relationship with Jacoby. I’ve even caught Angel playing with him! But Freddy and Zak have their own special connection, being the two boys in the house.
“I can make anybody love me! So there!”
I always think about Alfred and his “Brother from Another Mother,” Logan.
These photos are from July 2017, a month after we introduced Logan to Freddy.
They bonded after only a couple of days.
But their bond was deep. I called them “Brothers from Another Mother.” But they really were.
I mean, just look at them!
Logan and Freddy were so attached to each other.
They were so in sync with each other, too. You can see how bonded they were from these photos, taken only a month after we introduced them.
One thing Freddy liked to do was hold Logan down to groom him.
Whilst Izaak is not Logan, and it’s taken Freddy some time to accept Zak…
…it seems that Freddy needs a Singapura brother to take care of and look after.
It’s not the extreme “brothers from another mother” love that Freddy had with Logan, but…
…Zak seems to be an acceptable surrogate for Freddy’s Singapura fixation.
At least, until Zak has had enough of Freddy’s “brotherly” love.
I guess that’s the difference between Logan and Zak…Logan grew up with Big Brother Freddy, and Zak…didn’t. But he tolerates Freddy’s attention well. Enough.
