Working on various Photoshop projects today, at one point I looked over and noticed that all the boys were piled at one end of the sofa.
Alfred, Izaak and Dashiell were all napping in a heap at the far end.
It was pretty adorable.
I mean, look at them1
Totally a band of brothers.
Meanwhile, Lorelai was napping on the right side of the sofa.
Pretty much as far away as she could get from the boys whilst still being on the sofa.
But she was happy on her “no boys allowed” side of the couch.
Nice teeth, Rory!
In a lot of places (that don’t include Sweden at the moment), people have been told to “shelter in place” to avoid spreading Covid-19. Despite the Swedish government not yet ordering a lockdown, I have been staying inside as much as possible. So I thought I’d show the places the cats have been sheltering in today.
This was what Izaak and Alfred were doing before I got up to take photos.
I love the way this shot of Lorelai! Part of the fun of Hipstamatic is it’s random, like a slot machine. And this photo is one of the jackpots!
And this one isn’t bad either.
Here’s Dashiell on Pyret’s chair.
And here’s Dash channeling 1967.
One of Angel’s napping spots is on a dining table chair. That’s where I found her today.
And, as napping places go, the kitchen tables are a pretty good place to nap.
Just another average day Chez Hellqvist. As usual, I woke up with at least one cat on me.
Lorelai hung out in her favourite spot.
She loves to be on the top of the floor-to-ceiling cat tree.
Angel spent most of the afternoon in her brown cave bed.
I don’t think a day goes by that she doesn’t nap in there.
Alfred spent most of the day doing what he does best…
—looking for food. I swear, it’s like having a raccoon in the house!
Freddy! Get out of the cabinet!
Zak basically followed me around whilst I did my everyday things and photographed the other cats.
He really is my little shadow.
Most adorable shadow ever!
Even though we have five cats living with us, there are moments where you wonder where all the cats are.
There’s a time of day when all the cats are napping. Sometimes you see them…sometimes you don’t.
Izaak usually naps close to me…although maybe not so much when I start taking photos of him.
Alfred tends to nap on the sofa with Zak on the sofa.
Freddy is a simple cat with simple needs.
Mostly, he just needs a good place to nap.
Angel loves the little brown bed.
She naps in it almost everyday.
Even though a certain Singapura tries to nap in there with her.
Meanwhile, Lorelai has discovered the radiator bed.
She spends a lot of time there.
Can you blame her? It’s comfy and it’s warm.
Who wouldn’t want to nap in a warm radiator bed, though, right?
Last, but obviously not least, we have Jacoby. He loves to sleep on our bed.
He usually digs himself a nest under our comforters…but today he decided to nest on top of the blankets.
Even so, he usually sleeps on my side of the bed. How does he know that?
Today is just a normal Monday Chez Hellqvist…Angel sleeping in her favourite brown bed…
Unlike Logan, Izaak doesn’t share this bed with her. Oh, he tries to get in there with her…but where Logan ignored her when she hissed at him and got in anyway, Zak walks away and naps elsewhere.
Next we have Jacoby in the manly pink kitty bed. Which looks even more pink in this shot.
This film and lens tones the pink down quite a bit…but doesn’t really help.
Next shot is just plain black and white..and, nope. Doesn’t look any more manly without the pink. Must be the fluffy, not the colour.
Next we have Alfred.
I made Golonka (Polish beer-braised pork hocks) tonight, and Freddy always loves to chew on the bones.
He’s growling at Lorelai in this photo. He doesn’t like to share…
…no matter how big the bone is!
“Okay, Rory…NOW you can have it. I’m finished with it.”
Rory, meanwhile, has moved on and is playing in our bedroom.
Never fear! Zak the SuperSinga is here!
Never mind that that bone is bigger than his head!
Just another random post-show Monday…here’s how we’re doing, through Hipstamatic’s filters.
Jacoby loves his leopard canoe bed.
After he eats in his own room, he can be found in this bed, digesting and waiting for me to open the door.
Aw, Jake…don’t be shy!
Next we have Angel. Whoa, Angel! Not so close!
That’s better! Now we can see you!
Angel likes to hang out under the kitchen table.
I have had her almost ten years, and she is still skittish.
Next we have Alfred.
Freddy is so expressive.
“I’m napping, here! I’m napping!”
“Oh, okay…one more photo.”
Last, but definitely not least, we have Izaak and Lorelai.
Apparently, Zak’s tail makes a great eye mask to keep the light out.
I just don’t know how Rory can breathe with her nose in Zak’s flank, though.
They really are the best of friends. It’s lovely to travel with them, because they just keep each other company. It’s actually almost easier to travel with two of them than it is with one cat!
When I say I live with five cats, people are usually shocked and incredulous. “How can you live with five cats!? Don’t you feel claustrophic, with that many cats in an apartment?
Short answer, no, no we don’t. Firstly, one cat is 18 years old and not very active. Plus, it’s a big apartment, with an extra room in summer when we can open up the balcony.
But we have moments where we look around and ask, “Where the hell are all the cats? We have five cats…why can we not find any?
Well…we have Jacoby on the sofa next to Björn.
Then, going round the room anti-clockwise, we have…Logan in the little brown house-bed…
Grande dame Pyret asleep on her chair…
Angel in the house at the top of “her” cat tree…
And Alfred in the bed our friend Sanna-Leena sent Jake, on Harri’s old cat tree.
All of them, sound asleep. Except for feeding time, five cats are no more trouble than three or four. Trust me, I have had three cats, four cats, and (now) five cats…it just isn’t that much more work or trouble.
Here is a typical morning with Jacoby.
He is often the first thing I see upon awakening.
Not a bad thing to wake up to at all.
Some stretching and scratching…
…and a little rubbing and purring…
…and we’re off to the bathroom.
I say Jake is not a jumper, and here’s a perfect example. Instead of just leaping to the vanity, he takes this route: Toilet…
…to the litter box cabinet…
…and then the sink. He always goes this way.
“Okay, Mom…now what?”
It’s always a challenge to get ready with Jake helping.
Another photo of the two Abys conspiring atop one of the cat trees. I like how Angel’s tail is curled.
