Aby-a-Day – 1 November: Happy Halloween 2018

Yesterday, of course, was Halloween. We haven’t had a Halloween dress-up party Chez Hellqvist since…well, since before we were Chez Hellqvist.

zakhalloweenC02962<

So we dressed up this year. First up was Izaak, wearing the infamous “Honey Pie” costume. Let’s just say…he’s not a natural.

zakhalloweenC02993

zakhalloweenC02963

He had a hard time with the hat in particular.

zakhalloweenC02987

And then he was very distracted by his hair.

zakhalloweenC03005

…Almost…

zakhalloweenC03017

In the end, he managed to get a couple of awesome shots, though.

roryhalloweenC02894

Next up was Lorelai. No real costume for her, just a pretty dress and a blonde wig.

roryhalloweenC02910

Rory had as hard a time with her wig as Zak did with his hat/wig combo.

roryhalloweenC02921

It would have looked cuter on her if she’d have stopped making faces.

roryhalloweenC02901

She didn’t mind the dress, though. Just the wig.

freddyhalloweenC02855

Next we had Alfred, wearing Jacoby’s cowboy outfit.

freddyhalloweenC02867

Given how hard it was to get him to wear his Red Sox outfit, I was pleasantly surprised at how well he wore this costume.

freddyhalloweenC02860

He had a little trouble with the hat at first, but ended up rocking the western look.

jakehalloweenC02883

Jake, of course, has so many outfits to choose from; apart from the dresses, they’re basically all his. After going through them, I thought it would be fun to reprise his doctor’s scrubs outfit.

jakehalloweenC02876

It took him a second to remember how to wear the cap.

jakehalloweenC02872

His ears aren’t really airplane-angry. It’s just the hat’s elastic that makes them look like that.

angelhalloweenC02930

Last, but not least, we have Angel. Who, of course, wore her pirate’s costume.

angelhalloweenC02926

Which she wore like a boss. Of course, she pretty much only ever wears this costume and no other, while Jake wore one he han’t done in years, and the younger cats had never worn a costume at all.

angelhalloweenC02947

It’s not often that Angel is the best poser of the bunch…but there’s a first time for everything!

Aby-a-Day – October 31: “Eerie” (Saturday Photo Hunt)

This week’s Photo Hunt subject is “Eerie.”

jakeoscar_eerieC03711

As you saw yesterday, Os-car is a little eerie, especially with his ear bones.

jakeoscar_eerieC03712

Jacoby seems to like him, though.

jakeoscar_eerieC03745

The pair of them got to be pretty good friends, actually.

jakeoscar_eerieC03716

That is, until Os-car decided he wanted to share the Finnish bed with Jake.

jakeoscar_eerieC03720

Which he attempted to do by simply standing on Jake…which is actually pretty ironic, since that’s what Jake does when he wants to “share” one of the beds that one of the girls is already sleeping in.

jakeoscar_eerieC03730

Not quite so funny when the shoe’s on the other paw, is it, Jake?

jakeoscar_eerieC03731

“What. EVER.”

jakeoscar_eerieC03735

“I can handle HIM.”

jakeoscar_eerieC03736

“See? Problem solved…”

jakeoscar_eerieC03737

“…like a boss.”

Aby-a-Day – October 30: Fun with Os-car (Fashion Friday)

Last year I managed to snag one of the last Kitty Bonez in Boston on Halloween. I thought I’d posted photos of him, but apparently I didn’t.

oscar_eerieC03755

So here he is this year all dressed up in Jacoby’s coat and hat for a pre-Halloween Fashion Friday!

oscar_eerieC03759

I named my Kitty Bonez Os-car, and he’s really pretty cute. He is roughly cat-sized, and fairly anatomically correct, with the addition of ear-bones! I guess the creators of Kitty Bonez thought he looked more like a cat with pointy triangle ears.

jakeoscar_eerieC03747

Jacoby was very interested when I brought Os-car down this year and dressed him up. Jake examined him from his nose…

jakeoscar_eerieC03750

…to the tip of his bony tail.

jakeoscar_eerieC03751

“Seriously, Mom? Seriously?”

jakeoscar_eerieC03762

Eventually, Jake retired to his catnip paper bag because the lighting was better to think, but Os-car followed him.

jakeoscar_eerieC03764

“Honestly, can’t a cat get a little peace around here?”

jakeoscar_eerieC03766

“Oh, well…I guess if it means she dresses you up instead of me, I guess I’ll let you hang around.”

Aby-a-Day – October 31: “Indian clothes are better” (Fashion Friday)

My husband brought back many things from his trip to Bangalore.

jakeindiamatC09740

Like this little handwoven mat he brought back for the cats.

jakeindiamatC09759

It only cost 25 rupees, which is about 38c USD.

jakeindiamatC09757

jakeindiamatC09754

Still, proving once again that price doesn’t always equal value…

jakeindiamatC09755

jakeindiamatC09753

…Jacoby loves this mat. I told my husband he should have gotten more, since I foresee many whappypaws in the future over this little thing.

jakeindiahatC09818

My husband also brought back this little hat for Jake.

jakeindiahatC09813

Jake’s not quite as in love with the hat as he is with the mat.

jakeindiahatC09821

jakeindiahatC09834

Still, he wears it well. If you look closely at the second photo, you can see that there is a tiny jingle bell embedded in the hat’s brim. I have no idea why this is.

jakeindiahatC09833

My husband got this at Bannerghatta National Park, an amazing wildlife preserve with elephants, monkeys, leopards, butterflies, and, yes…

…tigers!

jakeindiahatC09842

I think Jake’s hat was meant to be for a human baby, to protect it from the sun, but it looks pretty good on Jake, don’t you think?

jakeindiaC09904

But that’s not all he brought back.

jakeindiaC09860

One thing Bangalore is known for is its textiles (especially Mysore silk), and my husband brought me some scarves and a saree.

jakeindiaC09887

This is the “everyday” scarf, which is either pashmina or a pashmina/cotton blend (the label only says “pashmina” on it). I love the colours.

jakeindiaC09900

And, apparently, so does Jake.

jakeindiacloseC09898

Tell me this cat doesn’t love to pose for fashion shots.

jakeindiaC09920

jakeindiaC09876

jakeindiaC09859

Dramatic cat is dramatic.

jakeindiaC09946

jakeindiaC09853

jakeindiaC09867

I really want to take one of these photos and Photoshop Jake into some sort of Lawrence of Arabia type background.

Aby-a-Day – October 31: Halloween at the Hospital

Today, of course, is Halloween, but it’s also Thursday, and Thursday is when we visit Pratt 2 at Tufts Medical Center.

jakecocotuftshalloweenE_7304

Of course we went in costume. I’ve been planning this for a year!

jakecocotuftshalloweenE_7303

Jacoby wore his cowboy outfit, and I swore I’d do last year, I cobbled together a cowgirl outfit to match. I found a genuine made-in-Texas fringed cowgirl shirt that just happened to have leopard print on it. I also found a leopard print cowboy hat, and I have leopard print boots…I thought we coordinated pretty well.

jaketuftshalloweenE_7299

Jake loves to visit so much…and of course, he doesn’t mind wearing an outfit.

jaketuftshalloweenE_7295

jaketuftshalloweenE_7293

As long as he gets attention, he’s happy!

jaketuftshalloweenE_7306

jaketuftshalloweenE_7308

jaketuftshalloweenE_7312

Vincent is the OT who runs our visits, and of course he and Jake are old friends by now.

tuftsartE_7285

I also found some patient artwork that had been left behind in the room we visit in. Now, I don’t know if Jake inspired this…but I like to think that he did 🙂

Trick or treat!

Abys are Everywhere! Happy Halloween!

You know me…I am ALWAYS on the lookout for greeting cards starring Abys. So imagine my squeeful delight when I found this little cutie:

Isn’t he adorable!? This is the inside:

But that’s not all! Today a friend shared this article about dressing up your cat for Halloween, and look who the headliner was!

That little guy gets around, eh?
