Aby-a-Day – 7 Augusti 2020: The cats and the hat (Funny “Fashion” Friday)

The other day when we went outside, I found someone’s old prismatic New Year’s Eve hat from 2017 (it was written inside the brim; I’m not psychic).

zakhat_4172

Izaak was the first to investigate it.

zakhat_4175

zakhat_4176

And when I say he investigated it, he thoroughly investigated it.

zakhat_4177

I am not sure what his final analysis was.

roryhat_4189

Next up to check out the hat was Lorelai.

roryhat_4191

“Um…what?”

roryfreddyhat_4193

Big brother Alfred swooped in to protect Rory if there had proved to be a threat.

roryfreddyhat_4196

All three cats seemed perplexed by the silly hat.

zakroryhatoutside_4203

Later on, they simply ignored it as Zak started to stalk and chase Rory.

zakroryhatoutside_4204

They sped past it like it was just another tree or bush.

zakoutside_4206

In case you’re wondering, Zak caught her.

Aby-a-Day – 4 Juli 2020: A holiday I don’t much feel like celebrating

My dad’s birthday is the 4th of July, so I have always thought of today as that first, and then the holiday celebrating the independence of the United States. My dad is 91 today, which is amazing. I haven’t seen him since 2007. I was planning a trip back to visit him…but then Trump was elected. So, lately…I don’t see very much to celebrate, quite honestly.

angel-4th

Boston has cancelled their world-renowned Boston Pops Concert and Fireworks Spectacular, which is amazing to me. It’s broadcast coast to coast, and it’s such a July 4th tradition. Maybe now people will take this pandemic seriously.

Aby-a-Day: June’s over? Julying! (Fashion Friday Flashback)

Four years ago, I posted about how Canadian-born Jacoby tended to get a little confused about what to wear the first few days of July.

jake4thC02423

To prove this point, I dressed him up in an Uncle Sam hat along with a maple leaf bandanna and Team Canada sweater.

jake4thC02424

He was such a legend at posing with outfits on.

jake4thC02426

And his eyes…so expressive!

jake4thC02392

And then…someone came and photobombed our little modelling session. Jake knew it immediately.

jake4thC02378

“Tessie’s right behind me, ruining my photo, isn’t she..?”

jake4thC02380

“Tessie, do you mind? I’m kinda doing a thing here.”

jake4thC02416

“Right. Let’s get back to the posing.” I’m just sorry I never found a Sweden jersey for him to pose in.

Aby-a-Day – 21 Juni: Who wore it best? (Fashion Friday Flashback)

Glad Midsommar, allihopa! It’s all downhill from here…

jakemidsommerIMG_5363

Today is the greatest Swedish holiday apart from Jul, the day when we get the longest day and the latest sunset, and in a country known for winter, this is a big deal. When I posted about Midsommar last year, I included photos of Jacoby wearing the traditional flower crown.

angelmidsommarC08386

I recently found the floral crown again (it had fallen behind some books) this spring. I was thinking Jake could model it again, perhaps outside…but obviously that can’t happen. So I decided to try it on everyone else, and see who, potentially, could be my next hat model. I started with Angel.

angelmidsommarC08388

After all, Angel does have hat wearing experience.

angelmidsommarC08390

She wasn’t in the mood today…

angelmidsommarC08401<

…this is the best I could get from her.

freddymidsommarC08360

So, Alfred, how are you at wearing a flower crown? You are a native born Swede, after all…this should be natural for you!

freddymidsommarC08362

Er…Where are you going?

freddyangelmidsommarC08365

Oh, you think the top of the balcony tree is a better background?

freddymidsommarC08368

You may be right. Okay, give me looking off into the distance.

freddymidsommarC08377

Great! Now give me sensitive and thoughtful.

freddymidsommarC08375

Awesome! And now…give me the money shot!

freddymidsommarC08379

Perfect!

rorymidsommarC08304

Okay. Let’s try the other Swedish Aby. Lorelai, your turn.

rorymidsommarC08313

Once again, without the crazy eyes?

rorymidsommarC08311

Okay…better. But let’s keep going…

rorymidsommarC08315

Demure…demure is good…or it would be if you weren’t so frowny.

rorymidsommarC08320<

There you go! That’s perfect!

zakmidsommarC08321

And, now…let’s see how the Polish contestant does. Here you go, Izaak.

zakmidsommarC08325

Oooookay…could you sit up, please?

zakmidsommarC08326

And could you lose the attitude?

zakmidsommarC08331

That’s a little better…keep going…

zakmidsommarC08335

…better…

zakmidsommarC08338

Okay Zak, now you just look like a Tribble with flowers.

zakmidsommarC08347

And…yeah, I think that’s the best we’re gonna get from you today. Thank you!

So, who wore the Midsommer flower crown best?

Aby-a-Day – 17 Mars: The return of the Silly Shamrock Hat (Silly Sunday)

You may remember that silly Guinness St. Patrick’s Day floppy hat I posed Alfred, Logan and Jacoby with last year?

roryfreddyStPatsHatC06060

Well, it’s baaaaaaaaack!

roryfreddyStPatsHatC06059

Freddy was a lot less intimidated by the hat this year than he was the first time.

roryStPatsHatC06051

Rory was…

roryStPatsHatC06082

…not impressed, shall we say.

roryfreddyzakStPatsHatC06083

…Izaak, on the other hand…

zakStPatsHatC06083

zakStPatsHatC06095

zakStPatsHatC06092

…Zak really seemed to have fun with it.

zakStPatsHatC06065

It actually has a lining in it so it will fit on a person’s head, but if that wasn’t there, Zak would have gone all the way inside it.

zakroryStPatsHatC06072

Zak playing with the hat renewed Rory’s interest in it…a little.

zakStPatsHatC06075

But ultimately she just left it to Zak and found something else to play with.

Aby-a-Day – 24 December: Julafton and Kalle Anka

It’s hard to describe how important watching Kalle Anka (Donald Duck) at 3pm on Christmas Eve is in Sweden.

jakejul16kalleanka_7303

Jacoby…seriously. It’s a big deal. Go sit down and watch.

jakejul16kalleanka_7302

That’s better.

jakejul16kalleanka_7311

Having experienced four Swedish Julaftons now, I can attest. Donald Duck and Christmas are a thing.

jakejul16kalleanka_7310

The annual broadcast, shown in Sweden since 1959 consists of Jiminy Cricket presenting about a dozen Disney cartoons from the 1930s to the 1960s, only a couple of which have anything to do with Christmas. There are “Silly Symphonies” shorts and clips from films like Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and The Jungle Book. The special is pretty much the same every year, except for the live introduction by a Swedish host and the addition of one new snippet from the latest Disney-produced movie (This year, it was a scene from Wreck-It Ralph Breaks the Internet and a scene from The Incredibles II).

jakejul16kalleankamum_7306

The first year we lived here, we went to Jönköping and watched it at Björn’s mom’s house. We have done that every year…until this year. In a manner of speaking, Jake spent Christmas at Björn’s mom’s house before he even lived here.

jakejul16kalleanka_7313

This year, we had Julafton and watched Kalle Anka at home in Skövde.

jakemistletoeJul16C05118

But it was hard to not think of the Juls we had spent at Björn’s mom’s house. That defined Christmas in Sweden to me…and Christmas in general to Björn.

jakemistletoeJul16C05094

jakemistletoeJul16C05109

We did miss Björn’s mom’s Christmas tree, decorated with hand-cut paper hearts.

jakemistletoeJul16C05081

And also the weird straw pig that lived underneath the tree.

jakemistletoeJul16C05122

Björn’s mom also had this display of her collection of Dala horses. Jake tried to fit in.

jakemistletoeJul16C05135

“Ugh…these guys are a bunch of stiffs!”

jakemistletoeJul16C05159

Like his mini-me, Jake posed with the row of Tomten, too.

jakemistletoeJul16C05141

This Julafton was wonderful…but I miss the holiday in Jönköping.

Aby-a-Day – 23 December: “Momma, don’t make me wear that old thing again…I got them ugly sweater blues” (Silly Sunday)

If you’re a regular follower of this blog, you know that one of our holiday traditions is dressing up the cats. This year is no different. Especially since I have this little red dress with a plaid skirt that I knew would be just perfect for Lorelai.

roryxmasclothesC03903

And I was right. She rocked it.

roryxmasclothesC03905

…And then she went off to fight with Izaak, still wearing the dress…like the tomboy she is (She won, too).

jakexmasclothesC03965

Jacoby, of course, put on his Santa sweater and Mistletoe Hat like the pro that he is.

jakexmasclothesC03962

jakexmasclothesC03958

jakexmasclothesC03955

He gave me all his best poses.

jakexmasclothesC03948

I love him so much. Good old stable, reliable Jake.

jakexmasclothesC03939

What would I do without him?

angelxmasclothesC04056

Angel, too, is no stranger to the annual holiday dress-up routine.

angelxmasclothesC04049

She’s not quite the show-off Jake is, but she knows how to pose. Her ears aren’t really mad, though. That’s just the elastic on the hat.

angelxmasclothesC04026

She also knows that if she gives me a few good poses, I’ll take off the stuff and let her go.

fredxmasclothesC03981

Alfred didn’t get dressed up last year, so this was his first experience with our tradition.

fredxmasclothesC03985

It took him a second to really get the hang of it.

fredxmasclothesC04006

But he soon realised it really wasn’t all that bad. In fact, it was kind of fun!

fredxmasclothesC03990

“Freddy the Elf…what’s your favourite colour?”

zakxmasclothesC03938

Zak got to wear the infamous Christmas Tree Costume.

zakxmasclothesC03927

He…was less than thrilled.

zakxmasclothesC03918<

He decided he wanted to leave.

zakxmasclothesC03919

I tried to tell him that trees have roots and can’t move, but he wasn’t having any of it.

loganxmasclothesC08168

Logan also wore the tree costume last year.

loganxmasclothesC08160

Who do you think wore it better?

Aby-a-Day – 7 December: “I joined the Navy to see the world…what did I see? I saw the sea” (Fashion Friday)

When I first moved to Sweden, I found a Baltic pet life jacket at a second-hand shop. Björn’s brother has a boat, so who knows? Jacoby might go on a boating trip some day. Besides, it was too good a deal to pass up. In pet shops, these vests are at least 200kr (about $22), but I got this one, in perfect shape, for 25kr (about $2.75).

jakebaltic_5908

Not only that, but it’s a perfect fit, and Jake rocks it.

jakebaltic_5916

He knows how good he looks in it, too.

jakebaltic_5917

That feel when you know you’re spectacular.

jakebaltic_5919

Then Björn got the idea to put a little sailor’s hat on Jake to finish the outfit.

jakebaltic_5920

Which, of course, Jake wore with panache.

jakebaltic_5923

If anything, he was even prouder of himself than he was before!

Aby-a-Day – 23 June: Små grodorna, små grodorna är lustiga att se (Swedish Saturday)

Yesterday, Sweden celebrated Midsommar, the second biggest holiday after Jul (Christmas), on par with the States’ Thanksgiving in terms of gathering together and feasting. The Nordic countries love their solstice celebrations.

.jakemidsommerIMG_5347

Swedish Midsommar is celebrated on the Friday nearest the Summer Solstice. It has varied origins, much like Christmas, but mainly comes from pagan rites. It has a lot to do with Freya and Freyr and the worshipping of fertility and a rich harvest during the Viking age (The fact that many Swedes, including both Björn and Kalle, have March birthdays may or may not have anything to do with all that fertility worshipping). Traditions include erecting a leaf-and-flower covered midsommarstång (or majstång – maypole), which Swedes dance around (this post’s title comes from the “Frog Dance” song, which involves hopping like a frog and croaking. There’s also a verse about pigs).

jakemidsommerIMG_5356

Traditional foods eaten at Midsommar include lax (salmon), boiled new potatoes, sill (herring) and strawberries. People also have barbecues and dinner parties. And they drink (it’s best to get to the alcohol stores early before Midsommar, because the lines can get wicked long and they can run out of your favourites,

jakemidsommerIMG_5357

Beer, wine and especially snaps (something like aquavit) are the beverages of choice. There are several nubbevisor (drinking songs) which are often based on popular tunes with the lyrics changed to booze- and food-related themes.

jakemidsommerIMG_5359

Ironically for a summer celebration, the weather is almost always cloudy and/or rainy. My first Midsommar was sunny and bright, but the last two were grey. Yesterday was overcast all day…but of course today the sky is blue without a cloud to be seen. Perfect hangover weather.

jakemidsommerIMG_5361

Another tradition is to wear a wreath of flowers on your head.

jakemidsommerIMG_5362

Usually you see women wearing them, but men can wear a flower crown, too. The wreaths can be made using real wildflowers or silk flowers, and of course you can buy them ready-made in stores.

jakemidsommerIMG_5363

I made this one for Jacoby for our first Midsommar, which happened about a week after we arrived here. As you can see, he rocked it.

jakemidsommerIMG_5366

Treats may or may not have been involved in the making of this post.

Aby-a-Day – 17 March: My goodness, my Guinness (Silly Saturday)

At this local pub we go to for book club meetings and the occasional pub quiz was festooned with these silly Guinness pint glass St. Patrick’s Day floppy hats when we were there last Thursday. Of course, we had to snag one to show the LunaTicks. It turned out to be just the boys…Angel, sagely, made herself scarce.

loganguinnessC02184

Logan was in his favourite brown nest bed and I couldn’t drag him out just for some silly photos. So, I just put the hat on his bed. I think he liked it.

freddyguinnessC02187

When Alfred came into the room, I moved the hat to our tree stump cat tree.

freddyguinnessC02191

freddyguinnessC02192

He was actually a little afraid of it.

freddyguinnessC02193

He’s usually so brash and fearless, it was highly amusing to watch him be so wary of a new thing.

freddyguinnessC02200

I tossed it on the floor, and I think for a second he wondered if it was alive.

freddyguinnessC02201

He examined it thoroughly, inside…

freddyguinnessC02205

…and out.

freddyguinnessC02207

Then I did that slightly mean thing that all cat people do…I made the “Pssssst! sound and he jumped back.

freddyguinnessC02213

Which actually might be a good thing. Maybe I can put it on places I don’t want him to go.

jakeguinnessC02241

Jacoby, on the other hand, was unfazed…or should I say, unfezed?

jakeguinnessC02214

This is Jake’s 8th St. Patrick’s Day, of course, and he used to live at Ground Zero for the legendary Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade. I guess it’s all old hat to him.

loganguinnessC02220

Meanwhile, Logan came out of his bed and joined us on the sofa. I came up for a different way for him to “wear” the hat.

loganguinnessC02222

I’m not sure if he liked it or not. With that face, it’s hard to tell sometimes.

loganguinnessC02232

Okay, then. Guess he didn’t like it. Well, St. Patty’s Day isn’t really a thing in Sweden anyway, apart from some bars.

Aby-a-Day – 2 February: Who wore it better? Mistletoe edition (Friday Fashion Flashback)

I know Christmas (or Jul, as it’s called in Sweden) has been done and gone for over a month, but I couldn’t resist this comparison. Remember the first time Jacoby wore his mistletoe hat? He wore it like a pro. And later on?

jakemistletoetreeE_1333

Yeah, he was still wearing it like a pro.

jakemistletoeJul16C05077

Even as late as our first Christmas in Sweden…

jakemistletoeJul16C05103

jakemistletoeJul16C05115

…Jake was still rocking that mistletoe hat like a boss.

loganmistletoeC07864

But the first time Logan donned the famed mistletoe hat?

loganmistletoeC07853

loganmistletoeC07860

loganmistletoeC07867

loganmistletoeC07869

loganmistletoeC07895

Yeah…not so much with the rocking and the bossing.

jakemistletoeN0625

Although, to be fair…Jake had his moments with the hat, too.

Aby-a-Day – July 3: Conflicted (Fashion Friday)

Jacoby is always so conflicted the first few days of July.

jake4thC02377

As a Canadian-born Aby living in the States, he just never knows what to wear.

jake4thC02390

jake4thC02406

jake4thC02429

That’s all right, buddy. It’ll be easier next year, I promise.

Aby-a-Day – May 22: Jake’s Finnish crown (Fashion Friday)

Because “Jacoby with a Finnish cat toy on his head” didn’t have nearly the same ring…

jakeSeacoast2015C00427

Ha ha, get it? RING? Because it’s one of the crocheted rings that Sanna sent us…oh, all right.

jakeSeacoast2015C00423

I put it on Jake’s head because I could, and because it was made of metallic gold thread, it looks like a little crown. Sort of.

jakeSeacoast2015C00422

Heavy is the head that wears the gold crocheted cat ring toy?

Aby-a-Day – May 1: Warm and Wonderful Feline Fashions (Fashion Friday)

I actually got a chance to try out Angel’s new purple parka in some actual snow before it all melted away.

angelsnowC07289

I took these photos in our courtyard the day before Easter.

angelsnowC07287

We still had a good amount of snow on the ground then, as you can see. We actually still had snow in our courtyard as late as April 17.

angelsnowC07284

I took Angel out into the little snow patch so we could see how her coat stands up to real outdoor use. She meowed a LOT while we were out there…I am not sure if she missed Jacoby or if she was just especially chatty about being outside.

angelsnowC07372

It was a quick outing, so I didn’t bother with her harness and leash. I did put on her undershirt though.

angelsnowC07339

The sleeves seem to be about the right length. I like the way the faux fur ruff frames her face. It really is a perfect coat for her.

angelsnowC07296

Here’s how it looks from the back. It seems like it’s a good length and covers her back well.

angelsnowC07236

And she can walk in it with no problems.

angelsnowC07239

She may not like walking, but the coat doesn’t hinder her. Next step: boots!

angelsnowC07256

That should be interesting…

Speaking of fashionable Abys, I also wanted to share these photos of our friends Sanna and Sketsi strolling about on a spring day in Helsinki.

Aren’t they adorable?

Sketsi is modeling his bomber jacket and knit cap that Jake and I sent him in one of our box exchanges.

Sketsi’s a boy. He just likes pink, but he’s secure in his neutered manhood. Sanna says that Sketsi is one of those males who can rock pink.

He was seagull watching on this outing.

There goes one now, apparently.

He really likes his pink knitted cap from our friend Sara at ScooterKnits. And, speaking of Sara and her infamous cat hats…she’s written a how-to book with patterns to knit or crochet your own cat hats! How awesome is that?

Also, please note that
her book‘s cover model is none other than Vivi, a red silver Abyssinian!

The book has patterns for the Pom-Pom and the Elf hats that Jake and Angel have…but the infamous Mistletoe hat is not included.

menorah

I’m still hoping she makes the Hanukkah Hat someday…

Aby-a-Day – April 5: Here comes Jacoby Cottontail!

I was in our local grocery store the other day and I happened upon a Lindt Gold Bunny gift set.

easterearsC07094

Well, once I saw those ears, I knew I had to buy it.

jakeeasterearsC07200

And you know what I had in store for those ears, too.

jakeeasterearsC07205

Well, seriously. Brown bunny ears? I’m surprised more Aby people didn’t snap these up!

jakeeasterearsC07209

jakeeasterearsC07219

jakeeasterearsC07220

jakeeasterearsC07235

We had a little trouble getting the ears to stay on properly at first, being that they headband wasn’t sized for a cat’s head.

jakeeasterearsC07213

But Jacoby’s a pro at wearing things on his head, so eventually we got it to work.

jakeeasterearsC07232

Oh, yeah, Jake got the ears to work, all right.

jakeeasterearsC07234

Work it, Jake.

angeleasterearsC07157

My husband commented that he though the ears were more Angel’s colour than Jake’s.

angeleasterearsC07155

All right, let’s find out.

angeleasterearsC07151

So…who wore it better?

Aby-a-Day – January 24: “Fan” (Saturday Photo Hunt)

This week’s Photo Hunt subject is “Fan.”

jakecheeseheadC04578

My husband is a Green Bay Packers fan.

jakecheeseheadC04597

Since Jacoby is the only boy in the house, and the only other person in the house who will watch football on a regular basis, he is also a Green Bay Packers fan.

jakecheeseheadC04600

You may remember when the Packers won the Super Bowl, and Jake dressed up in a Green Bay jersey and helmet.

jakecheeseheadC04553

Now he also has an official Cheesehead to wear.

jakecheeseheadC04552

Not that it did a lot of good last Sunday.

jakecheeseheadC04559

In case you didn’t hear, it will be Seattle and not Green Bay who will play the New England Patriots next week on Superbowl Sunday.

jakecheeseheadC04566

I would explain why Jacoby is not a New England fan (when he is all about everything else Boston)…but it’s a very long story. Let’s just say it’s because of his dad and leave it at that.

jakecheeseheadC04582

Hey, at least there’s always Kitten Bowl II and the Kitty Halftime Show to look forward to!

Aby-a-Day – December 19: In Soviet Christmas, cats deck you (Fashion Friday)

Last week I decked Jacoby out in his holiday finest. But then, we went to Petco to see Santa Claus, and a funny thing happened…

jakexmasfashionC03021

Yeah, we kind of found more holiday gear for his wardrobe.

jakexmasfashionC03027

Like this Elf costume complete with jingle bell “shoes.”

jakexmasfashionC03023

Green is definitely Jake’s colour.

jakexmasfashionC03085

And then we found…

jakexmasfashionC03095

…Reindeer antlers!

jakexmasfashionC03102

And they’re not just reindeer antlers. They’re red and green plaid reindeer antlers!

jakexmasfashionC03074

Yeah, it just doesn’t get much better than red and green plaid reindeer antlers.

jakexmasfashionC03121

Except…remember last week I mentioned I wanted to get Jake a fugly Xmas sweater…but I couldn’t find one? Well, guess what they had at Petco?

jakexmasfashionC03186

Unattractive holiday sweaters!

jakexmasfashionC03167

Yep…Admittedly, it’s more Neo-Fug rather than the Classic Fugly Sweater from the late 60’s to mid 80’s…but it’s definitely on the right track, don’t you think?

jakexmasfashionC03188

And you know what makes the sweater even better?

jakexmasfashionC03193

A red and green plaid holiday trapper hat!

jakexmasfashionC03194

Oh, yeah. Now Jake’s ready for Christmas! Bring it on.

Aby-a-Day – December 15: Jake and the flake (Hipstamatic Monday)

While I was taking snapshots of Jacoby in his mistletoe hat last week, I picked up a snowflake light that had fallen off the string.

hipstajakexmas21

hipstajakexmas22

Of course, Jake was instantly intrigued.

hipstajakexmas25

He demanded (as only an Aby can) to see what I had in my hand.

hipstajakexmas26

hipstajakexmas27

“What is this shiny device? I must have it!”

hipstajakexmas28

Gimme dat!

hipstajakexmas29

Nom nom nom!

hipstajakexmas30

hipstajakexmas31

It’s really amazing just how strong those Aby grabby hands can be when they really want something.

hipstajakexmas32

hipstajakexmas33

Usually only really good food (ie, MY food) gets this kind of a reaction!

hipstajakexmas34

I’m not sure if it was the interesting shape, or the way it caught the light. Jake was really biting that snowflake!

hipstajakexmas35

“Mine! All mine! I licked it, so there!” Yeah, things got a bit frenzied.

hipstajakexmas36

He was really into that flake! As it turned out, we’re still missing one snowflake bulb, so the string won’t light up. I’m thinking that may not be a bad thing…could you imagine Jake trying to bite the snowflakes if they were lit?

Aby-a-Day – December 8: Nest of Stockings (Hipstamatic Monday)

The other day while I was untangling Christmas lights, I had all the stockings in a pile on the floor waiting to be hung up.

hipstajakexmas1

Jacoby decided that would make a nifty nest.

hipstajakexmas2

hipstajakexmas3

He carefully tramped the down to make them just the right amount of comfy.

hipstajakexmas4

hipstajakexmas5

It was kind of interesting that he especially selected his own stocking to cuddle with.

hipstajakexmas6

I wonder if he knew it was his…or it just happened to be the most on top?

hipstajakexmas7

Of course, you can’t be Jake and get all cute on a pile of stockings, and expect me not to find the infamous Mistletoe Hat.

hipstajakexmas8

Of course, Jake instantly began striking poses.

hipstajakexmas20

Thoughtful…

hipstajakexmas10

…cute…

hipstajakexmas9

…dreamy…

hipstajakexmas11

…serious…

hipstajakexmas12

…dramatic…

hipstajakexmas13

…befuddled…

hipstajakexmas17

…and alert.

hipstajakexmas14

Jake is such a ham. He loves when I have my camera handy.

hipstajakexmas19

“Here’s my good side.”

hipstajakexmas18

“Here’s my other good side.”

hipstajakexmas15

Hmmm…maybe I need one of those 3D scanners to capture his true magnificence.

Aby-a-Day – October 31: “Indian clothes are better” (Fashion Friday)

My husband brought back many things from his trip to Bangalore.

jakeindiamatC09740

Like this little handwoven mat he brought back for the cats.

It only cost 25 rupees, which is about 38c USD.

Still, proving once again that price doesn’t always equal value…

…Jacoby loves this mat. I told my husband he should have gotten more, since I foresee many whappypaws in the future over this little thing.

jakeindiahatC09818

My husband also brought back this little hat for Jake.

jakeindiahatC09813

Jake’s not quite as in love with the hat as he is with the mat.

jakeindiahatC09834

Still, he wears it well. If you look closely at the second photo, you can see that there is a tiny jingle bell embedded in the hat’s brim. I have no idea why this is.

jakeindiahatC09833

My husband got this at Bannerghatta National Park, an amazing wildlife preserve with elephants, monkeys, leopards, butterflies, and, yes…

…tigers!

jakeindiahatC09842

I think Jake’s hat was meant to be for a human baby, to protect it from the sun, but it looks pretty good on Jake, don’t you think?

jakeindiaC09904

But that’s not all he brought back.

jakeindiaC09860

One thing Bangalore is known for is its textiles (especially Mysore silk), and my husband brought me some scarves and a saree.

jakeindiaC09887

This is the “everyday” scarf, which is either pashmina or a pashmina/cotton blend (the label only says “pashmina” on it). I love the colours.

And, apparently, so does Jake.

Tell me this cat doesn’t love to pose for fashion shots.

Dramatic cat is dramatic.

I really want to take one of these photos and Photoshop Jake into some sort of Lawrence of Arabia type background.
