Aby-a-Day – 25 Augusti 2020: The dark backstory of the woman yelling at her cat (Cartoon Tuesday)

Last night, Björn sent me a cartoon depicting the backstory of the woman yelling at the cat.

Well…okay, he knows what I like.

Aby-a-Day – 27 April: Cats with tiny faces is a thing (Photoshop Friday)

Well…it has been a depressing couple of weeks around here, hasn’t it? Time for something pointless and silly. I found this a while ago: Apparently, cats with tiny faces is a thing now. Okay, I’m game. Let’s play.

I don’t think it works well with Abyssinians…

Oh, that’s just silly.

Oh, that’s not too bad.

Yeah, just as I suspected. It works better on solid (or mostly solid) coloured cats.

And last but not least, a tiny little Singapura stink-eye. Well, it was kind of fun to do…not sure how impressed I am with the results, though.

Abys are Everywhere: “See this trophy? I won it. It’s mine”

Abyfriend Emilie shared this awesome photo with me that was posted on I Can Has Cheezburger via

I can’t read all of the trophy, but I can see that it was awarded by the Canadian Cat Association to the Best Abyssinian. Now, when I did a Google search, I found Jacoby’s brother Dillin showing as the best Abyssinian for the 2014-15 season! Holy cow! I had no idea. Now, I don’t think that the Aby in this photo is Dillin (mainly because the Reddit user says it’s their aunt’s Aby)…but does anyone know who it is?

Aby-a-Day – February 6: This was a good decision (Photoshop Friday)

Remember this LOLcat I made last year?

It is, of course, based on the “I should buy a boat” Aby:

Recently, I discovered a continuation of the meme, in which Mr. Aby does buy his boat:

There’s also a “bad decision” version which is pretty funny, but it doesn’t use an Aby as the cat. And, since the “bad decision” is funnier, really, than the “good decision,” I came up with this…

But how did I do it? Well…I’ll show you. First, I found a photo of a snowmobile without a rider on it that I liked.

And yes, I did look for a green snowmobile if at all possible. I got lucky when I found this photo! I cropped it like this:

Then, I found a photo of Jacoby that would fit with the buried snowmobile.

Since he was already in snow, I didn’t have to do much to blend out the background to fit him into the churned snow behind the snowmobile.

I used a feathery brush to blend in the edges of the snow and his coat.

Here’s a close-up that shows how I’ve actually erased parts of Jake’s coat so that it looks like it’s buried in the snow even more than he actually was.

I also placed the text at the bottom for two reasons: one, to match the first LOLcat, which also had the text at the bottom, but also to disguise the Photoshop blending between the snow and Jake’s coat. I could probably do more to improve the lighting match between Jake and the background, but for an LOLcat, it’s good enough.

Other People’s Abys – Calendar Cats

It’s been a good week for Abys on my calendars this week: Look at this little cutie who was on yesterday’s I Can Has Cheezburger Day-to-Day Calendar page!

I think they actually meant “Goggie” (LOLcat for “Doggie”)…but still, look at that face!

Aby-a-Day – January 19: “I should buy a snowmobile”

Because it had to be done…

You all remember this guy, the famous “I should buy a boat” Aby from the Bjork video, right?

Well, this photo…

Yeah. It had to be done.

I Can Has Cheezburger – Return of the Cleocatra Shirt!

This doesn’t happen very often, but I Can Has Cheezburger is offering a reprint of one of my favourite T-shirts:

You may recall, I posted about this a year and a half ago, when it first came out. I love this shirt so much; it’s just so perfect for an Aby slave person.

Get the reprint of “Your Offering Pleases Me” for $15 including shipping now! They’re closing orders on September 3rd, and they may not bring it back again.

Aby-a-Day – July 27: Land ho! (Fashion Friday)

Just as we did last year at ArtBeat, we made a point of stopping by Mike Ritter’s photobooth at ArtBeat. Mike takes wonderful photos of people at ArtBeat, and he has a lot of fun props to play with!

This year’s theme was “Migration,” and Mike had a coming-to-America backdrop and shipworthy props. Mike remembered us, too (which I guess makes sense…how many other cats are there at ArtBeat?)!

I wore the Captain Steubin hat, while Jacoby got lei’d.

Since I was born here, I didn’t ever have to migrate, but I have been to Ellis Island. None of my ancestors came through there, though. My dad was born here, too, and my mom was born in Alberta, near Edmonton…but she emigrated to the States via San Francisco, not New York. Jake, however, was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick!

Oh, and my shirt? Is from

Other People’s Abys: I know that feel, Demovitational…

Not long ago on the I Can Has Cheezburger affiliate site Very Demotivational, a “Demotivational” poster was…posted…that features a rather identifiable ruddy ticked feline:

Yeah…my cat has better gear and more friends than me, too. And then he takes my stuff anyway!

The internet is a series of tubes, and those tubes are filled with Abyssinians

What would we do without the internet?

Cat World is a great UK cat magazine, but it’s really expensive to get here in North America. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t read its articles! Not sure how long this is valid, but right now you can download an Aby feature article Cat World online for £1.99. You get a printable, savable PDF file, and it’s a pretty good article, with a focus on all the silver colours as well as the Big Four. It’s also got a bit of UK breeding history about the first half of the 20th Century.

This was also published on I Can Has Cheezburger’s CoMixed site:

I believe it!

I Can Has Cheezburger Shirt of the Week looks…suspiciously Aby-Like!

Check it out: I Can Has Cheezburger creates their own LOLcat T-shirts. Every Monday, they send out an email announcing the new designs. The catch is, they’re only available for a limited time, usually just a week.

This week, they’re offering the Kit-TIE shirt:

Now, doesn’t that look like an Aby? White chin, dark tipped tail…

It’s available in Unisex and Women’s sizes, and there’s also a version with a black cat on it in pink for women and dark grey for men (aka “Unisex”).

Like I said, these are only for sale for a short time, so if you’re interested, you’ve got to move quickly! Only $15, shipping in the US included, and they also ship to Canada as well as internationally.

Jacoby Can Has Cheezburger

I love the one slightly out of focus photo I posted last night where Jacoby is gazing off into the middle distance, plotting something…but what?

This is the best I could come up with:

However, if you can think of a better LOLcat caption, please, by all means, give it a try!

Cyoot Kitten Alert! Peter Hasselbom featured on I Can Has Cheezburger

What a nice thing to see first thing this morning!

I knew this was Peter Hasselbom‘s without even looking at the credit. This is Freddo (the blue) and Brina (the fawn), from his blue girl Aella’s litter.

Other People’s Abys – Muri and Björk on Cheezburger again

For a week that started out sunny and warm but ended up cold and clammy, I was delighted to see another animated gif of Muri the Abyssinian and Björk on I Can Has Cheezburger this morning.

Don’t be mad at your Aby significant other, Björk!

Then there’s the flipside, from the end of the video: Don’t be mad at your human significant other, Muri!

Cousin Toki…on Failblog? Wait…what?

Not sure how this happened. Definitely a “good news/bad news” sort of thing: cousin Toki was featured on Failblog: Poorly Dressed yesterday.

Poorly dressed? Really? Considering Toki dresses better than most people at your average strip mall, I really wonder how, exactly, he is “poorly dressed.” And, word of warning, some of the comments on that Failblog entry are pretty crass; not exactly NC-17, but they’re definitely in “Two and a Half Men” territory. There is one, though, that calls him “Steve Jobs, reborn” which makes up for the rude ones.

But, yay, more international exposure? Even bad publicity is at least publicity? Right?

Other People’s Abys – How did I not know about this?

Yesterday, I Can Has Cheezburger featured an LOLcat with an Aby wearing a suit, drinking coffee and reading the morning paper, which in turn came from a post over the weekend on The Daily What.

Well, of course that’s an Abyssinian. But here’s the thing: in the comments, people said, “Hey, that’s from a Björk video!” And I said, “What, what? There’s a music video that stars an Abyssinian dressed up in clothes? OMG, must see NOW!” And I went over to our good friend YouTube to see this masterpiece.

Oh. My.

Well. Let me quote from Wikipedia: In the video, Björk tired of her husband, played by a housecat, storms out of the house for a night out on the town. She goes to a pub where she drinks and hangs out with some friends. Then, she goes to the restrooms and the song stops, and the locals (including Dokaka) start beatboxing and making noises. When Björk is back, she joins the crew for a special performance of the song recorded for the video with samples from the ‘Audition mix’ of the song. They go out of the pub and Björk runs through the town drunk, falling over at one point (according to the ‘Making Of’ segment included on the DVD, the fall was staged with a stunt double). Later, she wakes up on a road with scratches and bruises all over her body. She gets up and continues to sing the song, with hearts coming from her mouth. The cat-husband sees the hearts from his house and finds out Björk’s location. He picks her up in his car and they go home. At home, the two share a kiss and dance as the song ends.

And, as it turns out, the leading cat’s name is Muri, and he has his own MySpace page! He’s also quite a celebrity in Iceland.

Even better…on Björk’s website, you can download a “behind the scenes” documentary of the making of the video! It only has a little bit involving Muri, but it’s still really interesting.

But, I have to say…this video came out in 2005! How did I not know about this until now?

I Can Has Cheezburger: So I had an idea for a LOLcat…

I made this on a whim last night: And that’s how you do it!

Just thought I’d share…

I Can Has Cheezburger: Cyoot kitten alert!

Today, I Can Has Cheezburger featured what looks like a red silver Aby kitten.

I Can Has Cheezburger: Tootsie roll?

I Can Has Cheezburger featured an Aby in one of their LOLcats this morning:

The look on this Aby’s face is wonderful.

Cyoot Kitten Alert

I Can Has Cheezburger’s Cyoot Kitteh of the Day is a tiny Aby today!

How adorable is this little guy (or girl)?
