Today’s drawing was made once again by Kalle. He based it on this photo of Alfred in Lorelai’s pink bed:
I really love how he’s captured Freddy’s eyes!
Kalle told me he couldn’t think of what to do in art class last week, so he drew Lorelai using one of my sketches from a couple of weeks ago. I have got some serious competition, people!
Today is Jacoby’s 9th birthday.
We celebrated with the usual Poesie cat food cake.
I barely got the candle lit before he started eating.
I know we all learned from Jungle Book that cats are afraid of fire..
…but that is apparently not the case when there is meat attached to that fire.
I hope he didn’t singe too many whiskers.
I had to blow out his candle, he was so eager to eat.
Um, Jake? You don’t need to open your mouth THAT wide…
Angel came to share some cat food cake.
Apparently the way-too-wide-open eating mouth thing is a general Aby trait. Chill, Angel. It’s just food.
Finally Alfred joined the party.
My three Abys, ladies and gentlemen…foodaholics!
The beginning of March is a big deal chez Hellqvist. Not only is it the anniversary of Björn writing the letter to me that started all this Swedish stuff, it is also Kalle’s, Logan’s and Björn’s birthdays.
All in a row like that, too. Kalle’s is the 7th, Logan’s is the 9th, and Björn’s is the 10th. In fact, Logan’s birthday is one of the “signs” that lead us to getting him.
Usually, Björn makes a fabulous cake, but then, we usually have a big party with all the family over for dinner. Since we had a quiet birthday weekend at home this year, Björn bought a ready-made prinsesstårta instead.
After the candles were blown out, Logan wandered into the kitchen, so I snapped some photos of all the birthday boys.
Logan was interested in the cake…but Singapuras aren’t as food-obsessed as Abys are.
Sidenote…Ha! I just noticed that prinsesstårtor are the same colour as our boiling kettle!
Björn actually trained Pyret to walk on a leash when she was quite young. The above photo was taken when she almost a year old. She was actually well used to travelling when she was younger.
And even when she was older, she enjoyed a walk outside. Kalle and I took her out for a walk shortly after I moved here, just before her 17th birthday.
You can see how eager and excited she is!
Well, she was. She kinda had a “resting bitch face.”
She trotted across the grass with purpose.
Apparently, she wanted to visit her favourite tree.
When she was finished with that, she headed towards the tall grass.
We didn’t let her go too far into that, though.
So she and Kalle walked along the border between the mowed lawn and the tall grass.
She chewed some grass, and then she was done.
She led the way back to the apartment. Well, she had lived there for 10 years at that point, so of course she knew the way.
Björn and I cleaned Kalle’s room this past weekend, and I found this adorable cat drawing he did in 2010. I love the eyes!
It’s part of a larger drawing that includes two hares, so it’s probably meant to be in the tall summer grass we have outside our apartment. Kalle keeps telling me he has no artistic talent…I disagree!
Two weeks ago, I posted photos and video of Björn pushing Jacoby on a swing
Well, turns out Jake isn’t the only swinging cat in our family. About a month after that first outing, Kalle and I took both Jake and Angel out for a walk. There is this one big, flat, basket-like swing in one play area in our apartment area, so we took Jake and Angel over to it to see what they thought of it.
Angel stayed in it! That was the first hurdle.
Then Kalle started pushing.
Of course, Jake was totes fine with that.
Angel was…less fine with it. But she tried.
She really tried.
But she could only take so much swinging.
So finally she bailed from the swing.
Jake was perfectly happy to keep on swinging, though.
Happy? He loved it!
I mean, look at him!
Here’s a short video (click on the image to see it…and apologies for the non-landscape orientation; I forgot) of Jake and Angel on the swing with Kalle.
