You may recall a couple of years ago when provided photographic evidence that I can bathe Jacoby with one hand. Well, as easy as it was to bathe him in our old apartment…
…It’s about 100 times easier in our new apartment!
The secret is the sliding glass doors.
Which Jake cannot open.
So I don’t need to hold onto him at all, unlike when we only had a shower curtain.
This is so awesome. The only thing that would make bathing him even easier would be if we had a Shower Massage or some other kind of sprayer. Unfortunately, our building has some crazy Euro-fixtures and nothing we can buy will fit.
So I have to rinse him under the faucet, or with cups.
Having a door that shuts, though, makes a huge difference. I almost look forward to our pre-catshow bath, now.
Can’t exactly say the same for Jake, though.
The other night I was sitting on the sofa, watching TV, when I heard a sound above me.
I looked up and I saw Jacoby.
On the ventilation duct.
It’s a little disconcerting to look up and see a cat directly above looking down at you.
It’s not the first time he’s done this…but after a hiatus of several months, recently he seems to be doing it more often.
I just hope he doesn’t try what he tried last summer, and attempt to walk along the sprinkler pipe…and fall and land on his house…
Well, here’s something you don’t see every day!
Angel not hissing at Jacoby!
Also, Tessie not picking on Angel!
(There is a reason we call Tessie “Me Too”…)
Of course, you know something like this wouldn’t last long. Tessie got bored and hopped down, but even so, Angel gets nervous being too close to the other cats for too long, unless there’s food involved.
And since there was no food forthcoming…
…Angel wasn’t about to hang around any longer than she had to.
She always feels safer up high…
…where she can keep her EYE on Jake!
Jake of course has no idea the drama and the turmoil that’s happening just above his head. Angel’s issues with Jake are definitely a one-way street!
This week’s Photo Hunt subject is “Present.”
One of Jacoby’s Christmas presents was a collar-mounted laser pointer from ThinkGeek.
Jake loves lasers. If I make the “laser pointer sound” (mimicking the chattering he makes when he sees it), he will come running.
In fact, he’s even figured out how to turn on the Dart laser toy by himself, so he can play with it whenever he wants (I just haven’t been able to get any photos of him doing it yet).
It took him a little bit to get used to the idea that the red dot was kind of following him around.
He needed to test it out a little before he really started playing with it.
But once Jake got the idea…he was off! Watch him chasing the red dot!
Up and down the hallway! What fun! This is the best present ever!
After he got tired of running, Jake and his laser pointer took on the ultimate challenge…
…The Christmas lights!
Keep your eye on that red dot, Jake!
It appears that in the world of good places to nap, at least as far as Jacoby’s concerned, warmth trumps cushiness.
He’ll lounge on the hard wooden floor if it’s got a nice warm sunpatch.
“Hey. You know, instead of standing there taking photos, you COULD be a lamb and fetch me a pillow…”
“…Now. Now would be good.”
We got a new IKEA Billy bookcase which we built today. It’s pretty tall, so we built it in our hallway.
Angel loves it. It’s exactly the same colour she is!
She blends right in. “Look at me – ha! You can’t! I’m invisible!” she says.
Wow…I guess it works! Jake didn’t even see her!
It didn’t take Angel long to investigate the wall-mounted cat tree.
She may not have been the first to go to the top…
…but she was no less intrepid than those who had gone before.
She just waited for all the excitement to die down before she started her exploration.
She went straight up to the top and surveyed her territory.
The problem was that annoying little brother Jacoby had to come up, too, and see what she was doing.
And so did big sister Tessie.
This is the sort of situation Angel hates…being stuck between the two of them. She kept her eye on the pair of them, though.
Of course, Jake just wanted to play…
…and Angel doesn’t.
It’s not every cat who can take a hissing in the face in his stride, but Jake knows when to back off (usually).
“I wasn’t doing anything! Honest!”
A truce is finally reached, and everyone enjoys their own shelf in relative peace.
The new part finally arrived and we were able to finish the last wall-mounted cat tree box! Jacoby could not wait for it to be built.
Here he is waiting impatiently with the drill/screwdriver.
“How am I supposed to get up here?”
“This is where the new shelf should go, Dad!”
Finally, the last shelf is up!
Jake and Tessie wasted no time climbing to the very top.
But when Jake got the to the uppermost box, he didn’t want to stop climbing.
So he didn’t.
He just kept going, and ventured out onto the ventilation duct…
…boldly going where no cat has gone before.
We’re going to need to put some sort of grippy material on that duct if he wants to go up there on a regular basis, though. It’s rounded and, I’m sure, very slippery with nothing for even grabby Aby hands to hold onto.
I’d have to say that the wall-mounted cat trees are definitely a raging success! Jake and Tessie approve!
